The artist has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to preserve the Britain's grassroots music venues.

Fender was given the cheque on 16 October as his third album People Watching was declared the top album of the last 12 months.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues fulfilled in his initial steps.

"As an artist would not have achieved my current career if it wasn't for all the performances I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These spaces are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, well-known musicians including Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

The money assisted locations that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues stemming from floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, court cases and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained funding support in improving infrastructure and technical equipment that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The notion that funds from shows in large arenas supports the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has commented.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their winnings to the youth organization that developed their band, alongside other local music groups.

Additionally winners that year M People contributed their prize to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the condition.

"Winning was ample," said vocalist the singer. "The money was the extra but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our success touched somebody else's life."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had rescued a couple of grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.

The first in Southampton and the second in Bristol were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "shares" in the venues.
