Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Fans can expect finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
